The fall 2026 anime season opens with an unusual mix of eagerly awaited returns and new adaptations. Franchises such as The Apothecary Diaries, Black Clover, Ranma 1/2 and Tokyo Revengers are back; Dragon Ball returns to Japanese television; and series such as Firefly Wedding, PSYREN and the new version of Magic Knight Rayearth make their debut.

This guide isn't a list of everything on air, and it isn't a ranking. It's a selection of 13 titles whose premiere dates are confirmed by official sources, in date order, with their studio, the work they're based on and where to watch them when the platform has announced it.

What the fall 2026 anime season brings

In Japan, the fall season covers the series that start airing around October and run until December. In 2026, most premieres fall between 2 and 11 October, although some series arrived early on streaming at the end of September. Some seasons are split into two parts: The Apothecary Diaries, for example, airs its first half now and holds the second until April 2027.

For this selection we've separated three things that often get mixed up: new series (a first anime adaptation or a new version of a work), new seasons of existing series and continuations that began before the fall. The first two are the focus of this guide; continuations are only mentioned for reference.

We've left out titles whose date or platform hadn't been confirmed by an official source in early October, and series that were postponed.
